I read through this book in about an hour. There are many sections that simply do not apply to me e.g., adopting older kids, adopting kids when you already have kids, etc. The information I did read was useful but I don't think I learned anything that I didn't already know from reading the information pages on the many adoption agencies that have an online presence. I would say this book just helped me confirm what I thought I knew already.Product details

My husband and I are applying for adoption. This book is written in a question and answer format and was a quick and easy read. I appreciate the authors humor. He did answer some of the questions I had about adoption and a few I hadn't thought of yet.
Easy read that answered a lot of questions I had prior to embarking on the adoption journey. However it is just one persons opinion so all answers must be viewed in that light.
Cannot wait for my husband to also read this book. Many of the questions answered in this book are things I have wondered and held me back from moving forward with adoption plans. (and often felt guilty for thinking or worrying about).
I think that this is a very valuable read if you are considering adoption. I enjoyed the writing and humor, but did feel that the author was too often saying that all kids may come with baggage, challenging personalities, special needs, etc, and somewhat downplaying the fact that adopted children do come to families with special circumstances and (1) may have suffered neglect, etc that birth children never have to experience, and (2) that that you have no insight into their future personality, whereas you might see parallels between yourself and birth children.
I trust his experience and know-how, but for example know for a fact that not just 10% of children seek to meet their birth parents — of the 5 adopted people/children that I know, all of them want(ed) to meet their birth parents. But I value his professional opinion and insight into many areas.
Dr. Ray is so funny and so smart. You would never regret buying any of his materials. This book is really helpfull, he himself has adopted all his children so he know what is talking about.
Love love love Dr. Ray! If you have heard him on EWTN The Doctor Is In or Living Right With Dr. Ray on tv, then you'll hear his voice in every intelligent though funny response to almost every adoption question/scenario you could ask. It has greatly helped us think and pray through our adoption calling.
It's kinda hard to argue perspectives with someone who has adopted 10 kids (including a few who weren't exactly easy at first). This really helped put my mind at ease after listening to horror stories from well-meaning people who want us "to be sure we know what we're doing" before we adopt.
